Job DescriptionGrade 1: £9.32 per hour The History of Science Museum is looking for variable hours Gallery Assistants to be a friendly face of the museum, providing a visitor experience that exceeds our guests' expectations. Ideally, you will have experience from a customer service or retail background, or similar. You will welcome visitors, hand out floor plans and family friendly trails, provide directions and information, and assist visitors with mobility issues - all in a warm and helpful way, and using your initiative and common sense. You will encourage visitors to support our museum by donating and hiring audioguides, and serve customers in our shop on an ad hoc basis. We will also support you to learn more about our objects on display so that you can choose one or two 'star' objects to highlight to visitors. You will also help to protect the museum building and collection, and you will ideally have some knowledge of basic security procedures and health and safety requirements in a sensitive environment. You will be required to closely monitor the galleries during public opening hours, being present to help with enquiries, provide directions and generally ensure the safe-keeping of the museums' artefacts. In the event of an emergency, you will assist with evacuation. Lifting may be required during the working day. Physical fitness for standing and walking is required, since there is limited opportunity to sit during the shift. You will be available to work weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. Working hours are assigned by monthly rota. The role would particularly suit those looking to work part-time.
