Job DescriptionThe Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) occupies an attractive site about 1.5 miles from Bath city centre, providing acute treatment and care, as well as a variety of outpatient, diagnostic and maternity services from community locations, for a population of over 500,000 people in Bath and the surrounding towns and villages. We serve an ageing local population as well as a significant transient population of tourists and students attending 2 local universities. Our current CEO, James Scott, is retiring after 12 outstanding years in post. Our staff, the RUH family, have worked together to create the Trust s Values Everyone Matters, Working Together and Making a Difference and these underpin everything we do. Improving Together is the mainspring which is creating a workforce which is newly empowered, engaged and equipped to meet the challenges and solve the problems facing modern healthcare. The programme is creating 5500 problem solvers as it equips and supports all staff to identify and make improvements in their own area of work, within clearly defined organisational objectives. The next Chief Executive therefore joins at a time of ongoing strength: service quality was last rated by the Care Quality Commission in 2018 as Good overall with outstanding performance in the caring domain, end of life care and maternity services. The Trust also has an enviable recent track record of sound financial management returning a surplus across the past 12 years. Nevertheless there are significant operational and system challenges that would need to be faced. The Chief Executive will build on this cultural and operational progress, and work within the RUH family to create an ever more robust and responsive service internally while energetically contributing to the creation of a more coherent and effective seamless service for patients externally. RUH is a strong member of the Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire Sustainability and Transformation Partnership system, and the new CEO will be proactive about deepening collaborative partnerships with our partners in acute, primary and community services within the system and those from neighbouring systems and different sectors who also support our patients. RUH is research active working with the four universities in Bath and Bristol, as well as others, on topics ranging from the development of devices and protocols to care packages and assessments of environmental impact. Our dynamic approach to research and innovation is a significant strength and the next Chief Executive will work to develop it. Our next CEO will be passionate about patient care, healthcare issues, NHS principles, RUH values, innovation and collaboration. They will have a significant track record of leadership, gained at Board level in a complex organisation with highly valued staff. If you think you can be this person please get in touch.
