Employment in the Aerospace and Aviation field is often through large specialist businesses. For air traffic control, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or NATS are industry leaders. Large engineering employers include Airbus, BAE Systems, Raytheon or Thales. And for commercial aviation, airlines such as British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2.com, and Ryanair are the obvious choices.
What qualifications and training are required?
With so many roles available in Aerospace and Aviation, it’s important to decide which career path you wish to take and achieve the right qualifications and training.
For example, an aerospace engineer will need to pursue in Further Education to get into the field. The classic academic route involves pursuing an Aerospace Engineering or Avionics degree, or a degrees in electronic engineering, software engineering, or manufacturing engineering that can then be applied at an entry-level position.
Equally, a Foundation Degree or HND, with English and Maths qualifications, could secure a foot in the door with an aerospace firm. And it’s also possible to work your way up from starting as a technician and progressing into an engineering role.
